A live interactive training using the Zoom Pro platform in two parts
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an innovative, evidence-based treatment developed by Marsha Linehan Ph.D. specifically for chronically suicidal patients with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). More recently, DBT is being used to treat other populations including patients with eating disorders and addictions, and has been specifically adapted for the treatment of emotionally dysregulated adolescents. This empirically validated treatment has been shown to help patients reduce suicidal and self-harm behavior, reduce the frequency of hospitalizations, remain engaged in therapy, and decrease substance use. DBT blends cognitive and behavioral interventions with acceptance-based strategies derived from mindfulness.
Day 1: 10-28-20
1. Understand the theoretical underpinnings of DBT treatment.
2. Understand the biosocial theory of emotion dysregulation.
3. Describe bio-social theory, the transaction between emotional vulnerability and invalidation.
4. State the functions and modes of DBT treatment.
5. Distinguish how mindfulness is used in DBT and apply principles to their own practice.
6. Justify a client referral for DBT treatment.
Day 2: 11-6-20
1. Detect how humans interact with the world to get their needs met through a behavior shaping role-play
2. Define the four modules of DBT
3. Understand the differences between clinical full model and group only application of DBT skills
4. Apply specific DBT skills to skills-only groups
5. Identify potential barriers to clinical application of DBT skills groups
6. Role play teaching and learning of DBT skills from various modules
This event is co-sponsored by Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research (GSSWSR) for a maximum of 3 of 6 credit hours. Bryn Mawr College GSSWSR, as a CSWE accredited School of Social Work, is a pre-approved provider of continuing education for Social Workers, professional counselors, and marriage and family therapists in Pennsylvania and many other states.
Denise R. Wolf, MA, ATR-BC, ATCS, LPC is the Assistant Director of Art Therapy at Cedar Crest College as well as owner and practitioner therapist of Mangata Services. Denise is a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as a Registered, Board Certified and an Art Therapy Certified Supervisor through the Art Therapy Credentials Board. She received her graduate degree from Drexel University. Denise received her DBT training from the University of Washington and was able to learn directly from DBT founder Marsha Linehan. For over 20 years, Denise has been practicing as a therapist primarily treating adolescents with histories of complex interpersonal trauma. She works as a consultant for many local agencies and organizations including Mastery Charter Schools and The Philadelphia Art Museum providing clinical supervision and programming related to trauma-informed care.
Denise has presented at city, state, national and international conferences in the areas of DBT, trauma informed care, trauma and neurobiology, pedagogy, and clinical supervision. She has several articles published in peer reviewed journals and has contributed chapters to seminal texts on her clinical work with adolescents.

If you have paid the fee, you will receive a refund or credit (your choice). If you fail to cancel prior to five business days and have paid, you or your agency will forfeit the fee.
