Anyone working in a helping profession may one day find themselves working with someone at risk for suicide. The good news is that anyone can prevent suicide if they have the right information and are in the right place at the right time. This workshop is intended to help anyone, regardless of their position, education, or experience, gain the confidence, knowledge, and skill necessary to assist someone who is potentially suicidal. It includes practical information about suicide, an examination of core beliefs, feelings, and attitudes that either promote or impede engagement with suicidal individuals and offers practical application of that knowledge so that participants feel prepared to link at-risk individuals to safety.

Workshop Objectives:

Participants will:
1. Identify their own reactions to suicide and how they impact intervention and planning.
2. Discuss relevant statistics related to suicide.
3. Discuss cultural considerations around the topic of suicide.
4. Name key risk factors and protective factors.
5. Identify key elements to effective service planning for suicidal individuals.
