This workshop provides an overview of Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) as it stands today, including the use of MDMA and psilocybin as these drugs emerge in the field of treatment. The field of ketamine assisted psychotherapy is changing and evolving, with new applications and methods being introduced nationwide at a rapid pace. This, along with pending FDA approval of psilocybin and MDMA, is igniting confusion, excitement, and hope in our field.

This course will include a brief history of psychedelics in the field of psychology in the US, ethical considerations and an overview of current legal limitations and laws. Our presenters will discuss the anatomy of a KAP session and harm reduction in the field of ketamine work. Special consideration will be paid to the importance of preparation and integration work for all clients, and mental health challenges and issues which may be helped or improved by KAP. Finally, this workshop will review KAP clinics in the region and other referral considerations.

Training Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

1. understand and discuss the history of psychedelic work in the field of mental health
2. describe the components a KAP session, including the importance of preparation and integration work.
3. identify at least three mental health issues which may be improved by psychedelic assisted psychotherapy
4. understand and discuss current legal limitations

 

Agenda:

9:30 to 10:00 – Introductions; intro to psychedelics and ketamine assisted psychotherapy
10:00 to 10:30 – Review current laws, limitations, licensing, and who can work in KAP
10:30 to 11:15 – Details regarding preparation sessions and integration
11:15 to 11:45 – What a typical KAP session involves
11:45 to 12:30 – Exploration of harm reduction and ethics within psychedelic therapy

This event is co-sponsored by Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research (GSSWSR) for a maximum of 3 credit hours. Bryn Mawr College GSSWSR, as a CSWE accredited School of Social Work, is a pre-approved provider of continuing education for Social Workers, professional counselors, and marriage and family therapists in Pennsylvania and many other states.

About the Trainers:

Rena Beyer, MSW, LCSW is a psychotherapist working in her solo private practice, Fostering Greatness, offering virtual therapy within the states of New Jersey and Delaware and virtual or in-person Ketamine- Assisted Psychotherapy sessions (KAP) utilizing the IV route of administration in collaboration with the doctors of Initia Nova. Rena specializes in treating depression, anxiety, trauma, life stressors, and fertility  concerns. Rena also co-founded Rooted Revival, a Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy group practice offering KAP throughout the tri-state area with offices in Wilmington, DE and Cherry Hill, NJ, and serves as clinical director of the New Jersey office. In addition to her clinical work, Rena provides continuing education throughout the tri-state area, and country-wide via virtual trainings and speaking engagements, on psychedelic psychotherapy. She was a member of the board of directors for the American Society of Ketamine Physicians, Psychotherapists, and Practitioners (ASKP3) for three years and founded the Therapist Advisory Panel within ASKP3 to further represent the needs and interests of psychotherapists within the psychedelic therapy space. Winden Rowe, MS, NCC, LPC is a decade-long trauma therapist who founded and leads several organizations in the healing and healthcare space. In addition to her own individual practice, Winden founded The Center for Change at Kennett Square, a group practice in PA, Build Your Practice, a company out of Austin, TX that Winden cofounded, teaching providers the ins and outs of establishing their practices, and now Rooted Revival! In her work Winden offers trauma work (EMDR) and Ketamine-Assisted therapy sessions (KAP). Winden provides KAP utilizing IV administration in collaboration with the incredible medical team at Initia Nova, with offices in both Cherry Hill, NJ and Wilmington, DE. Winden specializes in treating depression, anxiety, trauma, and other complex concerns that patients face.
